Press Release-May 2003
Local Professionals Have First Book Published
Toronto based legal publishers, Irwin Law Inc., are pleased to announce the publication of a new and significant book on the regulation of social work in the Province of Ontario. The text, entitled "Managing a Legal and Ethical Social Work Practice" was written by Milton residents, Elayne Tanner, a registered social worker and Marilyn Samuels, a lawyer.
The Social Work and Social Service Work Act, which came into force in 2000, created a new professional College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. In the way that the College of Physicians and Surgeons, regulates the activities of doctors in the province, this College regulates the activities of all social workers and social service workers in Ontario. The purpose of the book is to help social workers and social service workers understand the new legislation and the effect that regulation will have on their day-to-day professional lives. The information contained in this book is of critical importance to all social workers and social service workers. The book will also be used in universities and colleges and will soon be part of an interactive distance-learning course through the internet.
Elayne Tanner of Elayne Tanner and Associates Inc. has been providing individual, family and couple psychotherapy and counselling to the residents of Halton for the past eleven years. Marilyn Samuels, who has moved her law practice from Toronto to Milton, provides legal services in the areas of family, employment, small business, wills and personal injury as well as offering mediation services.
In the past year the office of Elayne Tanner & Associates Inc. has expanded to include a conference room where Elayne and her associates can provide seminars on a wide variety of topics.
The association between Elayne Tanner and Marilyn Samuels allows them to offer a unique combination of services that meets the personal and legal needs of the individuals that attend the counselling and conference center.
